Isager
My sister sent a bit of yarn for me to try. She is knitting a sweater from it, and I will join her, as soon I decide on a color. Its maybe not something I would have chosen on my own, but I can't resist a sister knit along. The sweater is called Olive, from a booklet called Animono. The pattern specifies this light fingering weight yarn, Isager Alpaca Strik 2, to be knit on larger than normal needles, size 6s. The above swatch is on 5s. I think its about the right gauge. Its different than I'd choose without the pattern, but very nicely drapey.
By the way, what ever happened to knit alongs? Remember 2005, when we all knit along? Do they still happen? I realized I haven't heard about one in a while. I guess we don't need them anymore, after all, now there is ravelry, with its wealth of information about the previous knittings of any sweater pattern. And with a number of sweaters under our belts, we've learned to make most adjustments without conferring with others. That's my hypothesis anyway. Sound right?

I am so intrigued by the pattern - I've never heard of it and it looks great! Ahhh... knitalongs... it's like a bygone era, isn't it? I really do think ravelry has changed knitting in a lot of great ways, but I miss knitalongs. Can't wait to see you work on this sweater!

I think the KALs are being done on Ravelry now. At least, there are approx. 400 groups with KAL in the name...

Actually, I am doing my first KAL which is hosted on one of the Ravelry groups. We are making all of the hats in Susan B Anderson's Itty Bitty Hats book. I am also in some groups whose purpose is one particular project (i.e. February Lady Sweater) and I think that kind of serves the purpose of the KAL, even though it is a little different. BTW, I am so glad you are posting again!!! :)

I don't believe that KALs are gone, just moved to Ravelry on foums instead of blog KALs.

There's an Animono / Isager website, and a Ravelry group as well, Diana. The pair have great style, I think.
It seems that KALs have greater reach through Ravelry since not all knitters blog. But yeah, I miss those. There was more of a visible community feeling with blog-hosted KALs.

I think it was reading about KAL that got me into blogging! I think there are definitely fads: Yahaira got everyone on the Ishbel bandwagon :)
What do you think we should knit together?

Pretty yarn and a great pattern. I found you because of the Rebecca KAL - remember that one? I guess I need to be more active on Ravelry, but no one talks about their KALs on their blogs. I miss that too.

I was looking through this book online the other day, but I didn't realize it was in English - thanks for the link! Great things in there.
Knitalongs are definitely alive and well on Ravelry... I am part of several on there! I blog about them too, but the best visibility really does come through Rav now :)
