Cotton Glace Coasters
About how many crocheted coasters would you guess are in one ball of cotton glace? I thought maybe 3, if I was lucky.
It turns out, you can get 9 coasters out of one ball of cotton glace. NINE. who knew.

The pattern is from Cozy Crochet. I bought this ball of yarn way back before the stash was the stash, just because I liked the color.
So I am moving this weekend. from one part of Brooklyn to another. and I have far too many items.. all of which need to be boxed up in 25 boxes or less, because thats how many boxes I told the movers there would be. But there might be more. Why do I have so many things? ack. Moving is an expensive, draining, stressful activity, but the change of scenery feels invigorating; it will be good. The new apt is mere blocks away from prime running territory in Prospect Park. There is no excuse to miss next year's Brooklyn Half Marathon. none.
Instead of packing, I have been working on Picovoli (without the picots).

The yarn is Debbie Bliss Cathay, which I like so far. Its black though; I need full sunlight to work on this!

Great coasters...plenty for guests! I hear you on the black yarn...I tried knitting lace (very hard on the eyes).
Best wishes on the move!

9 coasters out of one ball? That's great! I still have lots of cotton glace left even after the Leftovers Tank ...

I can't believe your stuff will fit into 25 boxes. I have 46 so far... But they're small boxes, I swear!
Enjoy your new neighborhood!

I made picovoli back when it was tivoli (which I think is picovoli without the picots) and I, too, used cathay. I really liked knitting with it unlike some other bloggers and I love how it turned out! I'm sure yours will be great too!

Great coasters - the color is wonderful. I adore my tivoli and have been thinking about another one - black seems like a good choice.

Wow - cute coasters. I've had an abandoned, quarter-done scarf in Cotton Glace in the stash for over a year now. It might be time to rip it out and make some coasters! Good luck with the move!

I'm doing Picovoli right now too. Your yarn sounds perfect for it and I love the idea of black, although I am never brave enough to use it :)

That leads me to ask: are the cotton coasters absorbent enough to last till u drink up to the last drop?
I've tried using acrylic yarns to crochet coasters but it seems that they are not good enough for chilled drinks...the wet drippy trails make them all so annoying for use!

i saw these coasters on your blog, then yesterday i got the first edition of adorn magazine, and i know you didn't get the pattern from there, but the pattern to make the crocheted circles is in there. great job!

Hey,
I need some coasters like that! I saw a set in a magazine that looked like little braided rugs, but I never thought to just crochet them. Are they hard enough that I would have to buy that book or do I just crochet a circle and keep going till it's big enough? *grin*

I normally really don't like crochet, but those coasters are cute! Good luck with the move and don't take anything with you that doesn't love you back as we say in Scotland!

Ah, Picovoli! I did one a while back, sans picot. Black's a good idea. I did mine in light blue. I find Cathay a bit splitty, and hiding ends was a problem for me, but it does wash up well!
