sewing!
I may have caught the sewing bug.

This is the start of Amy Butler's nappy bag, a cute bag with a fluid shape that can certainly work as a purse.
The fabric is from Purl patchwork. The green stripe is for the exterior and there is a swirly brocade-ish printed cotton in matching green for the interior. It seems like this is backwards, the showy print should go on the outside, right? but I like the idea of a preppy striped bag.
So far some fabric is cut out. It takes a while to cut out fabric! I am making a couple small changes - there is supposed to be a cell-phone pocket on the outside, but I am putting that on the inside instead. Also adding an interior cord for my keys (how else would I find them?) and a magnetic snap for the closure.
Sewing is like a whole new realm of possibilites. My real goal is the weekender bag, something like one of these lovely bags. Let's see how this one goes first...

Oh yeah, I caught it too, don't tell anyone. I ordered the pattern for the weekender bag the other day....

I think the "sewing bug" is contagious, I hear it's going around! I also have been stricken. Good luck on your project.

I think I may have that bug too. After seeing all of the lovely bags on sew? I knit, I bought patterns for Nappy, Swing, Madison and the Weekender. I decided to start with the Nappy bag too, but I got my fabric from Hancock, www.hancocks-paducah.com. You should check it out, the Amy Butler fabric is on sale.

Oh how fun! I think I may be catching it to, but it may be an expensive bug seeing as how I don't own a sewing machine . . . yet.

Heeheehee. Welcome to the dark side. I love the green stripe and the nappy bag. I have a suggested modification on the pockets for you to consider.

Ooo... I have always been curious about the nappy bag, such an interesting design. One note...sewing can be very addicting (i.e. fabric purchases). You can now start making knitting bags for all your knitting projects!

Heh heh.. *evil smile* Welcome! Your bag is going to look great. That's also on my "to-sew" list and your modifications sound great. This is going to come out a winner!

uuh, Purl Patchwork is fast becoming my Holy Grail, I hope she puts up an online store soon! I love that stripey fabric and it makes a whole lot more sense to have the cellphone pocket in the inside. I bet you're gonna accumulate fabric stash in no time ;-)

Have you seen Elli's version of the bag? It is amazing. http://www.elliphantom.com/2006/05/finished_weekender_travel_bag.html and you will find it. It made me buy the pattern.

Harumph. You're spreading the bug. I want that weekender, too! Time to get a refresher sewing course.
To think that I could make the bag I want. O.o This has distinct possibilities for my luggage loving self.

What a cute bag! I thought for sure this was another of your baby things for the potential baby in the future. Amy Butler is so crazy talented.

Thanks for the link to the Nappy Bag pattern. I've been looking around at diaper bags and not being thrilled with what's out there (or the price tags on the really cute ones), so I think I'll be sewing this one instead.

Looks like your making great progress. Wish I was there to help. Like the idea of the cell phone pocket on the inside, but think it would be fabulous if this bag could be reversible.

I have never sewn in my life (well a pencil case at school when I was 8) and, just from seeing your bag and looking at those weekend bags I am toying with the idea of getting a sewing machine... You are a bad influence!
