Unfortunate sock knitting
SQ,
I am afraid this entry is about more socks. I know, you have yet to be hit by the sock knitting bug, but just wait.. someday you'll knit a sock and understand. and perhaps it will peak your interest to know that the socks in question are destined for your feet.
PS. don't read further if you want your socks to be a surprise.
To start off your (belated) birthday socks, I tried a bunch of patterns that didn't work. Just narrowing the field, so to say. I *needed* to try 5 different patterns before arriving at the socks. yep.

The runners-up are, clockwise from top left, all Nancy Bush patterns:
1. Chalet Socks. In white jawoll. yes, white yarn. They were going to be beautiful classic cabled socks. Alas, I do think that jawoll is meant to be worked on size 0 needles, and this pattern on size 1s was too loose for my taste.
2. The Gentleman's sock with Lozenge pattern. Despite altering the pattern, the optimum size was not acheived, and I took the too-small cuff as a sign to move on. move on.
3. Rib and cable socks in Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn. These socks would have made it if only they didn't pool. 60 stitches on size 2 needles and a little diagonal pooling with the gold. I really don't care for pooling, and SQ, I think you'd agree.
Nearly making it all the way to the finish line is the Child's sock in Miranda pattern. Though the size of the sock was in question even before turning the heel, I kept knitting. It looked like there might be a yarn shortage, so I had to keep going to find out whether there'd be enough. There was. But the sock is far too small.

Finally, I turned to the yarn destined to be your socks. After a brief interlude with the Madder Ribbed sock (it pooled and was promptly dismissed), your socks emerged.

They are the Pomatomus socks. no pooling in sight, size looks right, and the pattern is interesting to knit. phew. you just might have socks this summer.

That's what I call sisterly love. And dedication (or is it stubborness?). I think you'll really like the p-socks and they end up being quite stretchy.
