A Maroon Turtleneck
Added to the fall queue:

I think this will look cute with cropped pants and boots in the winter. The maroon is a departure for me in terms of color, but it seems warm for fall and holidays.
There is no real pattern for this (image from BR), but its a basic turtleneck, so I think I can handle making it up...that is, with help from The Knitter's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns. I may add ribbing to the bottom, or may leave it loose like their version.
Two sweaters at once, isn't this contrary to the ever-practical one-sweater-at-a-time rule? What am I thinking? I am thinking that I need some zone-out knitting, and a worked-out pattern is just the thing. Never fear, I'm all about finishing. These sweaters will get done.

you probably know this already, but just in case...that book is notorious for very wide/baggy sleeves. i used it as a guide for paul's sweater (who's pretty broad-shouldered with larger arms) and still had to lop off 3 inches from the top of the sleeves!

On my current cardigan (for which I am using KHBoSP as a basis for the pattern) I changed the sleeve instructions so that they are smaller than what Ann Budd suggests . Jody is right, Ann Budd's sleeves are big. Not the look that I was going for with this knit.
But, her pattern would be a great guide to designing this pattern. Have fun, I think that it's a great idea.

Oooh, I think we have the same color of Jaeger Shetland Aran. The turtleneck looks like a good winter basic. Good luck with the pattern -- I"m looking forward to seeing your progress!

I knew that turtleneck looked familiar! I think I was coveting it at BR a few weeks ago. That shouldn't be a very hard pattern to copy. I took a sweater design class at Stitches and have a lot of handouts on this type of thing, so let me know if you want to check them out for reference!

We might be on the same wavelength. Just yesterday I was thinking about what to do this bag of Cascade 220 I have. And I decided on a turtleneck! How funny! Can't wait to see what you come up with. Who knows when I'll start mine.

That's a stylish sweater ... and I'm quite sure you can handle working out the pattern. Go for it ... go for it!

I've been eyeing that color of Shetland Aran. I think I may have to take a detour to Janettes. I think it will look great as a turtleneck.

Oh yeah, that is cute. It looks like then seamed the arms on the right side of the fabric...very cool looking!

I'm sure you'll do a fabulous job coming up with your own design. I would recommend using the Grumperina negative-ease method. I'm doing that for the sweater I'm working on right now and it works well.
And that is a lovely color! Very impressive of you to branch out all over the place.

That is totally cute. I love that the ribbing extends 1/2 way up the forearm. The color is also perfect...I can totally see it with some tweedy cropped pants and boots.

That will be one cool looking sweater. I like the body as it is, but I also think ribs would even out the "look" of it. Heh, I'm so non-committal.

i've never heard about the "one sweater at a time rule" .... must be why i have so many UFO's. but, yes! DON'T do ribbing on the bottom of the sweater --- it will look all boxed in. :)

I think the rule really is "Have at least 2 projects going at the same time". Although quite frankly the ONLY rule in knitting is "Don't Panic". The nice thing about having multiple projects going is if you're stuck on one, you can work on the other. I love your idea for the turtle neck sweater -- good luck with the design!

I think that this will look fabulous on you. YOu can totally handle two sweaters at once. I mean, you seem to be a fast knitter :) Anyways, I am addicted to Cash Iroha. I think I need to remake an hourglass using that since I was only about 70% happy with my first sweater... have a good rest of your week!

Raspy looks great! I love the simple turtleneck also. What makes it unique is the long ribbing! Love the long ribbing!

I saw the "Maroon Turleneck" on your blog. I am looking for a close-fitting basic turtleneck pattern. Do you know where I can purchase that pattern. Thanks.
