All this, plus a little more
Back from a mini-vacation in scenic Buffalo. It was a stellar getaway. Sometimes hanging out in suburbia really grates on me, but that didn't happen. Lots of time with my most favorite relatives, running of course (there is no rest for those in marathon training), and multiple beach visits (lake beaches totally count). The best run was a phenomenal 10-miler that featured a final mile at 8:20 pace (compared to the initial mile at 10:24). Just love to finish a long run strong. and 8:20 pace! Last time I ran that fast was in a 5-mile race last summer. The Gatorade Endurance Formula midway through is surely the secret ingredient.
You're not here for my running updates though!
So I am now officially one of those people who visits yarn shops on vacation. yep. When not on vacation, I am a completely spoiled NYC-dweller, with about 10 LYSs to choose from. So neither Karma Knitting nor Have Ewe Any Wool astounded me. But there were some gems..
Here's what I got:

2 skeins of Manos in a dark dark green, Regia stripey sock yarn in a 70s-inspired colorway, and Mountain Colors Bearfoot.
The Manos may be destined to be a Backyard Leaves scarf from Scarf Style. Or maybe I'll pair it with a greener mohair/silk to intensify the color for a simple scarf.
Mountain Colors Bearfoot, now this seems like its going to be luscious. I got this very colorful skein.. red with accents. Not my typical choice, but check out these colors!

I am thinking about the Rib and Cable Socks from the Fall Interweave. The pattern calls for Bearfoot, and I so rarely use the required yarn, it seems like a fun idea.

a mile in just over 8 minutes after running 9?!very impressive, congrats! I was going to email you and ask how your running was going.
That's a nice little haul, how about using the manos with the mohair/silk (or just silk) for backyard leaves? I think it would really make it pop.

If you have the Knitting on the Road book, there's a KAL for the Friday Harbor socks and your Barefoot would work perfectly for that pattern. Just in case you didn't cast on immediately after signing off. :)

I recently purchased some Bearfoot (yummy stuff) for the rib and cable socks and I'm going to try them on my magic loop. Great going on the run - you're totally going to kick butt. I think the sign of a true knitter is visiting yarn stores on vacation. Glad you found some good stuff.

I bought some of that Barefoot yarn too! I got some for Kris at Strikker and some for myself. That color way looks like Kris's. Tell me the yarn stores in Buffalo. I may take a ride sometime! Love that 70's yarn color!

Mountain Colors Bearfoot is addicting sock yarn. I was given a skein as a fluke- a friend of a friend had a friend who drives a tow truck, and a customer left a skein in the cab of his truck. Somehow, the yarn made it's way to me. I'm totally hooked on it. It knits up into wonderful socks.
I hope you enjoy it, and get favorable results with it. I've now bought about four skeins of the yarn. It makes great gifts, and they have so many different colorways, you can find one for even the pickiest person on your list!
