Marathon training
There is a very real reason behind my really slow knitting and lack of posting lately. Its called marathon training.
Here's how it goes down, three nights a week:
1. I get home from work in the evening, relax for a half hour or so.
2. Change into running wear, think about what route to do today, stretch.
3. Run, at least 4 miles, according to "casual marathoner" schedule. Marathon training is not a 'casual' endeavor. But okay.
4. Get home, completely sweaty, drink sports drink, and shower.
5. Make a culinary masterpiece for dinner. Recent additions to my repertoire this week include peanut butter on bread, and eggs+toast.
6. By this point its probably 9:30 or 10pm. Knit a couple rows and go to bed.
Evenings, formerly prime knitting time, are now prime running time! I am not complaining, I love running really. This year I am making an effort to really follow the training schedule without any slacking.
With any luck, I'll be on course for a 4-hour marathon. and that would make it all worth it.

Wow, that is great! I'm very impressed, but then that's probably because I can't run 1 block without practically collapsing, wierd heart thing. Happy training!

Diana, thanks for your suggestions. I'm carefully and slowly considering my options.
I have a similar problem to yours with the bike riding thing. It sucks up prime knitting time, but has its own worth.

If it came down to running or knitting, I'd choose knitting every time, but I'm a wimp! :) I'm glad your training is going good - how do you stand to run in the heat?

good luck with your training! it is hard to stick to a training schedule. i am sure you'll do just fine for the marathon. i'm still running, but it has reduced from 3/4 times a week to like once a week. oh well.

Yeah, I imagine the knitting time that I would have if I didn't exercise. The I imagine the body that I would have if I didn't exercise--scarry!
Keep up the training, and I look forward to race day (when and where?)

You are such a stud. But you are just going to have to stop working so you have time to knit. Or you could stop eating. Your choice.

I hate running with a fiery passion, so I have nothing but respect for your desire to be in a marathon. That rocks!

My husband's best friend is also a marathon runner ... actually, he's into triathlon. This coming Saturday morning, he'll be doing a small one in Pleasanton, CA.
When is tour competition date? Good luck!

I am so so so impressed! Your hard work will pay off, I'm sure. And you'll always have your knitting for the winter months, right? Or do you run all year round? I have no concept of these things...

you're a better woman than I could ever be. In the old days, like six years ago, I'd come home from work and run seven miles and then get back and cook for HWWV and maybe his parents, too. I'd slog off to bed and start over again. Now that I knit, who needs running? I can do that on a treadmill for a short period of time, dash home, and sit on the couch for the next several hours knitting.
And I wonder why my belly is so jiggly.

Good for you for being so committed. I was an avid runner for 2 years but have slacked off the past year or so and it shows. I never ran in competition though. I'd really like to get back into my running but it's so hard to get back into it. I run once in a while but not like I used to (4 to 5 times a week - approx. 10k).

Congratulations with your training! I used to swim 6 hours a day when I was in college... now I am lucky if I can run twice a week and get my butt on the bike and cycle for a few hours. So, go you! Doesn't work get in the way of exercise?!
