Stripey Stripe

A stripey sock is underway.

I began this sock a few months ago with these mini toothpick-esque 5-inch Brittany Birch DPNs, but I couldn't get used to their small size. I kept thinking the stitches were going to fall off the ends. So I switched to Crystal Palace DPNs. They're my favorites.

oh, and this tubular cast-on not the most beautiful thing you've ever seen? so lovely.

It took 3 tries to get the cast-on right. Its a modified version of the one in KBFT. Since its worked it in the round, I had to reverse the knits and purls in the last row of the cast on. worked out fine.

Why knit socks when they can be bought at the store for like a dollar? because they are challenging, yet soothing, and have great potential to be perfect. not to mention dead comfortable.

Oh my God, you crazy knitter! Who bothers with a fancy cast-on for socks?!? I can't even be bothered with the tubular cast-on for sweaters :). You are a neat and thorough knitter - I like that!

gorgeous yarn, amazing colorway and that cast on is just FANTASTIC. gotta try that.

I still haven't tried to attempt tubular cast on, or even socks yet!! I love to see everyone's socks and see when (if ever) I get the guts to try to knit some. Your socks are great!

I'm with grumperina. I honestly thought I was a perfectionist ... until I met you!

Stephanie:

I like your socks - the stripes are a very pretty color combination. I've not yet tried the tubular cast-on, but will have to keep it in mind for my next project.

Gorgeous cast-on! It's nice to see other knitters with perfectionist cast-on tendancies. I don't feel like such a freak.

ooooooooooo....... I like the tubular cast on! I will have to try that on my next socks! I always have a little hole there, I fix it later, but it still bugs me.

Dani:

Hi there! I love your blog first of all.. and these socks! I have been looking for something like what you are making and ordered the same yarn from ebay (I would check out the sock yarn they have there.. I bought four skeins from the same seller with cheap shipping). Anyhow, I looked at the tubular cast on online and it seems difficult. Why is this cast on so much better? Should I try it?! Thanks!
